AUTS: Why Butter is Better?

This morning, I woke up to my 7:15AM alarm with my usual.. This one is for the boys with the boomin' system. Top down, AC with the coolin' system. When he come up in the club, he be blazin' up.. And before the 1st stanza of the song ended, I woke up and killed my Super Bass alarm tone! Thank God it's Friday but I decided to sleep for another 15 minutes. "Chige teh!", I murmured to my bedmate in agreement to continue sleeping and just take the second trip of our company's shuttle.

I woke up 15 minutes later, arranged my pillows, folded my duvet, walked to the door half asleep, opened it and went to the kitchen. I searched for my tumbler in the refrigerator and drank water in gulps. I heard this from Mo Twister that drinking a glass of cold water right after you wake up can give you a great kick start in the morning. Another benefit which I found on FitDay is that it helps speed up your metabolism. Great! Now I'm wide awake!

Another thing I couldn't leave the house without doing is eating breakfast. I feel tired and weak at work without it. Sometimes it makes my day worse by having a headache. From there, I prepared my usual breakfast, coffee mixed with oats, pancakes, sausage and waffles. Chos! Nananaginip pa ako ng gusto kong breakfast. Lols! Seriously, I ate rice and partnered it with what was left from dinner last night, Igado.

While on the table, my housemates, Von and Benjamin were also having their first meal in the morning. You already knew them during my birthday right? So Benj was eating the same food as mine while Von is having a sandwich. He opened the plastic of loaf bread and put it beside the margarine and sugar. He started spreading margarine on the bread and sprinkled sugar in it. Perfect! After eating a margarine-with-sugar-spread sandwich, Von prepared another one. This time, Benjamin interrupted and explained why margarine is not healthy for people. He showed us this video on YouTube as to why butter is better than margarine. It was mainly because of the transfat content of the margarine. When we checked the label of the margarine that Von was having, it has 0.4g transfat. Good thing, I was using butter in cooking fried rice all these years.

In the video, you will notice that in order to solidify margarine it undergoes the process of hydrogenation which in effect produced the transfat. Transfat, as stated was found to lower the good cholesterol in the body which in turn increased the bad cholesterol and the risk of having coronary heart diseases. As compared, butter is naturally made from cow's milk while margarine is a processed food having many ingredients of which some are good and some are bad for the body. But of course, companies producing margarine wouldn't just sit on the corner and let butter beat them so there are other brands of margarine nowadays that declares 0 transfat in their products.

As ASAPScience said, "Be aware of what you eat. Limit intake of saturated fat and Avoid Transfat!". There you go guys, just be careful of what you eat and always check the nutrition label before you grab and purchase products from the grocery store. XO guys. Take good care of your health. ^_^ Tata!
